(1/2)/-6 = -1/12 = slope = -0.08333...
= rise over run = change in y divided by corresponding change in x coordinates
= (-7/2 -- 4)/(-2-4)= (-7/2+4)/(-6) = (1/2)/-6 = -1/12
for the line through the two points (-2,-7/2) and (4,-4)
it may help to at least plot the two points and draw a straight line through them. If it's downward sloping, then the slope should be negative. if barely downward sloping then a negative small fraction. (-2,-7/2) = (-2, -3 1/2) move to the right 6 units and the y value drops down 1/2 unit. It's slightly downward sloping. -1/12 looks in the right range.
