six more than the quotient of a number b and 30 is greater than 3
b/30 + 6 > 3
multiply both sides by 30
30b/30 + 6(30) > 3(30)
b + 180 > 90
subtract 180 from both sides
b+180-180 > 90-180
b >-90
or in interval notation
b is an element of the interval (-90, infinity)
quotient of b and 30 means b is the dividend and 30 is the divisor
common mistake is to mix up dividend and divisor
which would lead to 30/b + 6 > 3
and
30+6b>3b
3b>-30
b>-10
