asked 12/15/22Write AN equAtioN for the live that passes through the given point ANd is Ponadiati to the graph of the given equation
y=-2 -1 , (2 , -1)

for the given line of y = -2x - 1, the slope is m = -2. that means that the slope of the perpendicular line will be the opposite reciprocal, which for this line is
m = -1 / -2 = 1/2
if you plug that slope and the given point into the point-slope form you can solve for the end value
y - y1 = m(x - x1)
y - -1 = 1/2(x - 2)
y + 1 = 1/2x - 1
y = 1/2x - 2

Getting the foundation right
A lot of assumtions to make here:
"live" means line
"Ponadiati" means perpendicular
y = -2 - 1 means y = -2x - 1
So let's start with the slope-intercept equation of Y = mX + b
where m is slope and b is the Y-intercept. A line perpendicular
to another line has a slope that's a reciprocal of the first line's
slope and a sign that's opposite. If we plug in the new slope and
the given point for X and Y and solve for b, we'll get our new
Y = mX + b equAtioN.
Good luck!

When looking at this problem we can break it down into two steps:
1) Creating a equation that is always perpendicular to y=2x-1
2) Ensuring the line we made goes through the point (2,-1)
To create a line that is always perpendicular to the one given to us we must remember that the slope needed is both the opposite sign as well as the reciprocal. So in the case of y=2x-1 the perpendicular slope would be -1/2.
Now that we have our slope we have to make sure that the line we are making passes through the point (2,-1). To do this recall the "point slope intercept form" y-y1=m(x-x1) this equation allows us to build a line that crosses through a point of our choosing with any slope. To use it we simply need to replace the y1 with the y value found on the point and for x1 replace it with the x value from the point giving us y-(-1)=(-1/2)(x-2) which when simplified gives us y=(-1/2)x
