What's an equation that passes through the points 2,0 and is perpendicular to y=-1/2x+3
First, remember that lines are perpendicular when their slopes are negative reciprocals of each other. That means if you multiply the two slopes together you get -1. For example, lines with slopes of 3/5 and -5/3 are perpendicular. The one exception to that is when one line is horizontal and the other line is vertical.
I'm going to proceed based on the hunch that your equation should have had "x" behind the -1/2.
A good tool for this task is the point slope equation of a line: y - y1 = m(x - x1)
Your (x1, y1) is (2,0) and you want a slope perpendicular to a slope of -1/2
Can you take it from there? Your teacher might want you to solve the equation for y after you've inserted the relevant values.
