200/54 = 100/27 meters per second = 3.7037037... m/s
= 3 19/27 m/s
= about 3.7 m/s
= about 4 m/s rounded to nearest integer
= about 8.285 mph = about 8 miles per hour

asked 12/05/22Jessica ran on the track team at her school. She finished a 200-meter race in 54 seconds.
• What was Jessica’s average speed, in meters per second, for the 200-meter race? Show your work and round your answer to the nearest tenth of a meter.
Jessica ran in a 50-meter race next. On this shorter distance, Jessica’s speed was 1 meter per second faster than her speed in the 200-meter race.
• How many seconds did it take Jessica to complete the 50-meter race? Show your work and round your answer to the nearest tenth of a second.

The average speed (m/sec) shows you that you need to divide meters by seconds.
For the 200m race, it's 200/54, or 3.703 (3.7 m/sec rounded)
Now you can figure out her average speed for the 2nd race.
distance = speed x time, so t = d/s. Use that formula for the time to run the 50 meters.
