 pounds of chocolate chips, the total cost is $15

 pounds of walnuts and 2

 pounds of chocolate chips, the total cost is $12

. Find the cost for each pound of walnuts and each pound of chocolate chips.

6w+2c =12

multiply 1st equation by 2, then subtract the 2nd equation

6w+10c = 30

6w + 2c = 12

8c =18

c = 18/8 = 9/4 = $2.25 per pound of chocolate chips

w = (15-5(2.25))/3

= (15-11.25)/3 = 3.75/3 = $1.25 per pound for walnuts

3(1.25)+5(2.25) = 3.75+11.25 = $15

6(1.25)+2(2.25)=7.5+4.5= $12
