5n + 10d = 1010

solve by substitution and elimination

multiply 1st equation above by 5, then

subtract it from the 2nd equation above

to eliminate one variable and solve for

the remaining variable

5n + 5d = 565

10d - 5d = 1010 - 565 = 445

5d = 445

d = 445/5 = 89 dimes

n= 113-89 = 24 nickels

5(24) + 10(89)

= 120 + 890

= 1010 cents = $10.10= total value of 24 nickels & 89 dimes
