$2.89 per pound
16 ounces per pound
3 ounces = 3/16th of a pound
3/16 x 2.89
= about 54 cents for 3 ounces
= cost of one shortcake
At least in the US, where l lb= 16 ounces
but elsewhere with Troy Weight, 1 lb = 12 ounces
There 3 ounces would be 3/12 = 1/4 of a pound
and a shortcake of 3 ounces would cost 2.89/4
= about 72 cents.
1 Troy lb. = about 1.22 US pounds
So you get more for your $2.89 per Troy pound than for a US pound
