The perimeter (adding up all the sides) of a rectangular piece of land is 42 meters. The length of the land can be shown by

(x+4)

and its width can be shown by (2x−7)

Solve for x, and then plug it back in to find the Length and the Width of the land.

(2x-7) + (x+4) = 42/2 = 21

3x -3 =21

3x = 24

x=24/3 = 8

2x-7 = 2(8)-7 = 9 meters= Width

x+4 = 8+4 = 12 meters= Length

Perimeter = 2(W+L) = 2(9+12) =2(21) = 42
