you have 5 feet of rope and want to cut it into pieces that are 3/4 feet each = 3/4)(12) = 9 inches inch
How many 9 inch pieces can you get from 5 feet of rope?
5/(3/4) = 5(4/3) = 20/3= 6 2/3 pieces. = 6 pieces with half foot of rope left over
or
5 feet = 5x12 = 60 inches
60/9 = 6 6/9 = 6 2/3 pieces = 6 pieces = 54 inches with 60-54 = 6 inches of rope left over
