Why can't I use Logarithms to solve this 3^((x+1)/(x-2)) + 3^((2x-1)/(x-2)) = 36?

I have tried and do not get the correct answer. I know the algebraic way to solve it. I just want to know what I am missing or have forgotten wrt to using logs to solve.
