First write out the figures as a whole number: 8688 (no comma)
Now figure out how many decimal places you'll need and whether you need "spacer" zeros.
A number in the ten-thousandths needs 4 decimal places and your number has four digits, so there's no need for any spacers to fill in the necessary number of places.
The answer is 0.8688 (the leading zero to the left of the decimal point is optional, but it's typically added for clarity when the number is printed in textbooks).
