Hi Cameron!
Want to write this in standard form, which
is Ax + By = C
What I would do first is get rid of the
fractions. Do this by multiplying both
sides by 60. 60 is divisible by 5, 3,
and 4. 60 divided by 5 is 12, 60 divided
by 3 is 20, and 60 divided by 4 is 15.
60*(4/5) = 60*(-1/3)x - 60*(3/4)y
12(4) = -20x - 15(3)y
48 = -20x - 45y (12*4=48, 15*3=45)
Multiply both sides by -1 to
reduce number of negatives.
-1*(48) = -1*(-20x) -1* (-45y)
-48 = 20x + 45y
So then, in Ax + By = C form we
have...
20x + 45y = -48
Some textbooks also call
Ax + By + C = 0 standard form.
Written in that way, you would
just move the -48 to the left side
by adding 48 to both sides.
20x + 45y = -48
+48 +48
--------------------------
20x +45y + 48 = 0
