Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
current grade = 88, 60 on a test
grade now will depend on weights of 88 and 60
if 60 is the Final Exam counting 1/2 the grade then your final grade
is the arithmetic average of 88 and 60 = 74, a solid C, not bad for nearly failing the Final Exam
59 is failing, an F+, 60=D-
(88+60)/2 = 148/2 =74=C
but if the weights are different such as the Final Exam counts 2/3 and 88 just 1/3
then find the weighted average: 88 + 120 = 208/3 = 69 1/3 which is a D+
unless for some reason the instructor rounds up from 69 1/3 to 70, then a C-.
