Logarithms are inverse function of exponents. 10⁴ = 1000, log₁₀ (10000) = 4

So you can do the same thing with logs that you do with exponents.

Two properties of logs are these:

1) log_n (xy) = log_n x + log_n y for any base n

ex. log₁₀ (100)(100) = log₁₀ 100 + log₁₀ 100

= 2 + 2 or 4, log₁₀ (10000) = 4

2) log_n (x/y) = log_n x - log_n y for any base n

ex. log₁₀ (100/100) = log₁₀ 100 - log₁₀ 100

= 2 - 2 or 0 , log₁₀ (1) = 0
