There are 34 cars on the lot of Quality Used Cars. There are only 15 cars with automatic transmission and only 12 with bucket seats.

One circle is labeled cars with automatic transmissions, the other circle is labeled cars with bucket seats. the region common to both circles is called the intersection.

 

Let x be the number of cars in the intersection

 

34-x=12

x=22

So there are 12  with BOTH automatic transmissions AND bucket seats.

All the cars with buckets seats also have automatic transmissions!
