fractions are the same as division
6/2 = 6 divided by 2 = 3
2/6 = 2 divided by 6 = 2(1)/2(3) = 1/3 cancel the common factor 2
1/6 +2/6 = (1+2)/6.= 3/6 = 1/2. add the numerators when you add fractions, if they have the same denominator
1/4 + 1/3 = 3/12 +4/12.= 7/12 convert the denominators to new denominators that are the same in order to add them
1/4 =3/3(4) = 3/12
1/3 =4/3(4) = 4/12
to multiply fractions, multiply their numberators and multiply their denomnators:
1/3 x 3/4 = (1x3)/(3x4) = 3/12 = 1/4
to divide fractions flip the divisor upside down and multiply
1/3 divided by 1/4 = (1/3)/(1/4) = (1/3)(4/1) = 4/3
