A company makes steel rods shaped like cylinders. Each rod has a radius of 3 centimeters and a height of 40 centimeters. If the company used 48,607.2 cm

of steel, how many rods did it make?

In the question, lets first focus on a single steel rod-

it has a radius, r=3 cm and Height, h=40 cm.

Now we know that the Volume (V) of the cylinder is-

V=π r² h

so, the volume of a single rod (indicating the amount of steel used) will be-

V = 3.14 x (3)² x 40 (using above formula and putting value of pi, r and h)

V=3.14 x 9x 40

V= 3.14 x 360

V=1130.4 cm³

so, for a single rod the amount of steel used indicated by its volume is 1130.4 cm³. And given in the question the company used 48,607.2 cm steel.

Total of rods made = total steel used/ steel needed to make one rod

=48,607.2/1130.4

=43

SO, THE COMPANY MADE 43 RODS
