I would also like to add that the format of the lab exam, or practical, consists of 3 parts: rock and mineral identification, earthquake epicenter and eccentricity.
What is the format of the earth science regents?
Currently, the written part of the regents is worth 85 points: 50 multiple choice questions and 35 questions that include extended response, graphs, maps, calculations, etc. There is also a lab practical worth 16 points. There is a conversion chart that changes for each administration of the exam. However, if a student gets 15 or 16 of the 16 possible points on the practical, it puts them in a very good position for success on the written part of the exam.
NY State is slowly evolving the earth science curriculum and the format of the regents may change in 2024. However, the format as described above is the format as of now.
