Kyle gives his wife 2/7 of his money. He then spends 3/5 of the remainder. If he had $300 left, how much did he have at first?

I really don't understand, though several people tried to explain it to me.

M= original amount of Money he started with

he gave 2/7 of M to his wife

then spent 3/5 of what's left leaving $300

He started with M=$1050,

gave 2/7(1050)= $300 to his wife,

leaving $1050-300= $750

he spent 3/5 of $750 = $450

leaving $750-$450== $300

M-(2/7)M = (5/7)M

he spent (3/5)(5/7)M = (3/7)M

leaving (5/7)M-(3/7)M = (2/7)M = 300

2M/7=300

M= 300(7/2)

M=$1050 originally
