Strictly between means do not include the endpoints of the interval:
4<x<6 (x is strictly between 4 and 6, usually we leave off the word strictly and read statements like the following)
4≤x<6 (x is between 4 and 6, including the 4)
4<x≤6 (x is between 4 and 6, including the 6)
4 ≤x≤6 (x is between 4 and 6, inclusive)
Note that 4<x<6 could also be written as:
|x - 5| < 1 (5 is the midpoint between 4 and 6 and the distance from 5 to either endpoint is 1)
