h(x) = -x-3 find h(-6)

substitute -6 everywhere there is an x

h(-6) = -(-6) - 3

= 6 - 3 [-(-6) is a double negative --> 6]

h(-6) = 3

This is a substitution question. Basically it is asking "What is the value of the function h(x) when x = - 6". You will substitute -6 for the x in ( - x -3 ). It becomes -(-6) -3. A double negative becomes positive so -(-6) = 6. Next 6 - 3 = -3. So h(-6) = -3.
