helppppppppp!!!

Notice that the third column lists the differences between successive y-values. Is there a pattern to the column of differences? Do the values in this column describe a linear function? Explain. As a check, create a fourth column that tables the differences of the differences. How does this column help you with your thinking?

___

x I y I diff I

0 I 0 I 1 I

1 I 1 I 3 I

2 I 4 I _ I

3 I 9 I _ I

4 I I _ I

5 I

You must complete the second and third columns to answer.

This problem asks about a finite difference table. You have shown the first 2 entries in the column of first differences. The column of 2nd differences, when complete, will allow you to not only answer the question but also to complete the sequence in the y column. Please note that since you are only given a few terms of the original sequence, there will probably be more than one way to extend it. You can only assert that an answer you give is one reasonable way to extend the original sequence. If this statement is unfamiliar to you, you may certainly ask me to explain further.
