2/3 = (y-1)/(x+2) = slope = the coefficient of the x term when the equation is solved for y = change in y coordinates divided by corresponding change in x coordinates
cross multiply to get
y-1 = (2/3)(x+2) in point slope form
solve for y
y= 2x/3 +7/3 in slope intercept form, slope = 2/3, y intercept =(0,7/3)
or
multiply by 3 to eliminate fractions
2x-3y +7 = 0 in general form: ax +by + c =0
2x-3y =-7 in standard form
parallel lines have the same slope, but different y intercepts. IF two lines had the same slope and same y intercept, they'd be the same line graphically
