So, when a line passes through the x-axis, the point of intersection has a y value = 0 and the x-value is known as the x-intercept. The same is true for a line passing through the vertical (y) axis, where the point of intersection has an x-value = 0 and the y-value is known as the y-intercept.
Therefore, if you solve the given equation (3x + 4y = -24) using y = 0 you will find your x-intercept.
It follows then that if you solve the given equation using x = 0 you will find your y-intercept.
For y = 0:
3x + 4(0) = -24
x = -8
For x = 0:
3(0) + 4y = -24
y = -6
