What is the use of "such that"?

There is, it is true, a possibility that the earth will stop, because it could be smashed to pieces in a collision with a body from outer space, or frozen into lifelessness by the sun’s cooling; but such possibilities lie either millions (at least) of years in the future or at the outer extremes of unlikelihood. Most are such that the human race will get warning of them before they occur...

I don't know the use of such that in the quote above. Could I replace it with "to the extend that"?
