population are children. The numbers of female children and male children are equal. What

is the value of P?

(2/3)F + (3/8)M = (P/100) (M + F) = children

(2/3)F = (3/8)M, therefore F = (9/16)M

put it all together:

(2/3)(9/16)M + (3/8)M = (P/100) (M + (9/16)M)

(3/8)M +(3/8)M = (P/100) (25/16)M

(6/8)M = (P/100) (25/16)M

(16/25)(6/8) = (P/100)

12/25 = P/100

1200/25 = 48 = P
