A chef is going to use a mixture of two brands of Italian dressing the first brand contains 5% vinegar and the second brand contains 15% vinegar the chef wants to make 350 milliliters of a dressing that is 6% vinegar how much of each brand should she use?

.15x -.05x = .06(350) -.05(350)

.1x = .01(350) = 3.5

x = 3.5(10)=35 ml of 15%

350-35 = 315 ml of 6%

15 is within 9 of 6

you need 9 times as much 5% as 15%

315/35 = 9

.15(35) +.05(315) = 5.25 + 15.75 = 21 = .6(350)
