"f" is a function. The rule for the function is 3x + 10. So "3x + 10" is the same as "f". So when it says, do "f - g" you can plug in "3x + 10" where ever you see "f" because they are the same.
So f - g = (3x + 10) - (4x - 2). To simplify, distribute the "-" sign to get 3x + 10 - 4x + 2 and then combine like-terms. The only terms that are "like" are the 10 and the 2
