In this problem, your teacher has told you that there are 32 windmills on a farm and that each one of these windmills completes 120 revolutions every minute.
Your teacher then asks you to find how many revolutions ALL of the 32 windmills complete in 1 minute.
For word problems, I highly recommend drawing out your problem...
Your drawing will probably look something like stick windmills with the number 120 under each.
You do not have to draw out all of the windmills, just enough for you to get an idea of what the teacher is asking you to do.
By looking at our diagram we can see that we are needing to add 120 revolutions for every windmill that we have, this means that there are two ways to answer this question we can....
- Add 120 revolutions 32 times
- 120+120+120+120+120+120... etc.
- Multiply 120 revolutions per minute by the number of windmills that we have, 32
- 120 x 32
The easiest way to complete this problem would be to use Multiplication
120 x 32 = 3,840 revolutions per minute
Multiplication
3,840 Revolutions per minute
