Taking the SAT requires a strategic plan. How to attack the test is almost as important as what you know. I have seen many students who had high IQ's and good grades score poorly on the SAT. I have also seen some that were not as "smart", and with just slightly above average grades score well, because they knew how to attack the test. Knowing how the test is structured, how to eliminate answers, when to guess, and when not to guess and time management are all important to being successful.
