y+3x =1
y =-3x +1 is a line with slope =-3 and y intercept (0,1)
6y+2x=-54
6y =-2x -54
y = -(1/3)x - 9 is a line with slope =-1/3 and y intercept (0,-9)
the two downward sloping lines intersect
when -3x+1 = -x/3 -9
-3x +x/3 =-9-1
-9x+x = -30
-8x =-30
x =30/8= 15/4
x= 3.75
y =-3(15/4)+1
=-45/4 +4/4
=-41/4
y= -10.25
the intersection point = (3.75, -10.25) = the solution to the two equations
