Solve the equation 7x + 8 = 1
STEP BY STEP SOLUTION!
1. Read, understand the situation, identify and pull out important information.
2. Solve the equation by doing all the opposite operations on both sides of the equation to get the variable by itself.
7x + 8 = 1 Get rid of the +8
-8 -8 by subtracting -8 on both sides of the equation
7x = -7 Get rid of the factor 7
1/7 (7x = -7) by dividing both sides of the equation by 7
(1/7)(7/x) = -7/7
7x/7 = -7/7
x = -1 It’s the solution found.
3. Verify the solution x = -1 by substituting the solution into the original equation.
7*(-1) + 8 = 1
-7 + 8 = 1 Subtract like terms
1 = 1 We got an identity, which means that our solution makes a true equation.

7x +8=1 You need to get the variable by itself and then divide by the number in front of the variable; 2 step process. So 7x+8-8=1-8;
7x=-7 divide each side by by 7
x=-1

Unlock the mystery of Math - - and make it your BEST subject!
7x + 8 = 1
1) Get all numbers on one side of the equals sign & leave "x" by itself on the other side of the equals sign.
2) Think of doing opposite operations (addition is the opposite of subtraction; division is the opposite of multiplication...)
3) Begin with numbers that do not have an "x" with them:
Subtract 8 from both sides -- to keep this equation true, you must do the same thing to both sides.
Now you have: 7x = -7
4) Now get "x" by itself -- since it's 7 times x, use the opposite of multiplication to isolate x -- and divide 7x by 7....divide both sides by 7 to keep the equation true.
You now have: x = -1
5) Now you can check your answer to see if -1 is the solution. Plug -1 into the original equation to see if it works:
7(-1) + 8 = 1
-7 + 8 = 1
1 = 1
So your solution of -1 is an accurate solution! Good job.
