xy=6 Equation 1
y+x=-5 Equation 2
Let's use Equation 2 and solve for y
y=-x-5
Let's substitute the value of y (from Eq. 2) into Equation 1
x(-x-5)=6
Distribute
-x2-5x=6
-x2-5x-6=0 (to make this easier we can multiply both sides by -1)
x2+5x+6=0
Solve by factoring or quadratic equation:
(x+3)(x+2)=0
x = -3
x = -2
