x + y = 180 (the two angles are supplementary)
y = 114+ x (the larger angle IS 114 MORE THAN the smaller)
x + (114 + x) = 180 (substitution method--replace y in the 1st equation with its equivalent expression from the 2nd).
2x + 114 = 180 (combine similar terms)
2x = 66 (subtraction for equality)
x= 33 (division for equality)
y = 147 (substitute 33 for x in y = 114 + x)
Check:
33 + 147 =? 180 (yes, supplementary)
147 - 33 = 114 (so larger angle is 114 more than the smaller)
