Translating algebraic expressions into numerical ones

I need help translating this algebraic expression into a numerical expression:

Twice the difference of four less ten

Answer 1

2(4-10)

= 2(-6)

= -12

although the "difference" is often used to refer to a positive number, as in distance between 2 cities

then "twice the difference of four less ten" would be twice the absolute value of 4 minus 10:

2|4-10|

= 2(+6)

= 12
