Question

The school that Ted goes to is selling tickets to a play. On the first day of ticket sales the school

sold 7 senior citizen tickets and 8 child tickets for a total of $147. The school took in $158 on the

second day by selling 10 senior citizen tickets and 4 child tickets. Find the price of a senior

citizen ticket and the price of a child ticket.

8C + 7S = 147

4C + 10S = 158

8C + 20S = 316

subtract the 1st equation

13S = 316-147= 169

S = 169/13 = $13 senior priced tickets

C = (158-10(13)/4 = 28/4 = $7 child tickets

7(13) + 8(7) = 91+ 56 = 147
