6/8 = 3(2)/4(2) since 3x2 = 6 and 4x2 = 8
cancel the 2's leaving 3/4
maybe take 6 pieces of equal size paper, maybe circular, like pizzas'
then cut them in half.
pass them out among 8 different people or places on a table, each getting 1/2 a pizza
then notice that leaves 2 pizzas left. so far each of the 8 got 1/2 pizza each. Now divide up the remaining 2 pizzas, cut each of them into quarters so you have 8 quarter pizzas left to distribute among 8 people, so each gets another 1/4 pizza. Now each of the 8 have 1/2 + 1/4 pizza.
1/2 + 1/4 = 2/4 + 1/4 = (2+1)/4 = 3/4. Each of the 8 now have 3/4 of a pizza each.
