Mr. Jagoda's orchard has 20 rows. Cherries are planted so that there are 9 fruits in one row, and berries so that there are 15 in a row. In how many rows are planted cherries, and how many berries if there are a total of 228 fruits?

228 total = 15B + 9C

B+C = 20

9B + 9C = 180

15B + 9C = 228

9B + 9C =180

subtract to eliminate 1 variable

6B = 48

B = 8 rows of berries

C = 12 rows of cherries

15(8) + 9(12) = 120+108 = 228
