A tree that is 7 feet tall is growing at a rate of 1 foot each year. A tree that is 10 feet tall is growing at a rate of 1/2 foot each year. how many years will take the two trees to reach the same height?

7 + t = 10 + t/2

subtract 7+t/2 from both sides to get

t - t/2 = 10 -7

t/2 = 3

multiply both sides by 2

2t/2 = 2(3)

t = 6 years for the two trees to be the same height

in 6 years the 7 foot tree grows to 13 feet

in 6 years the 10 foot tree grows to 10+6/2 = 13 feet
