Amy and Jill are selling pies for a school fundraiser. Customers can buy apple pies and blackberry pies. Amy sold 2 apple pies and 6 blackberry pies for a total of $138. Jill sold 6 apple pies and 7 blackberry pies for a total of $194. What is the cost each of one apple pie and one blackberry pie?

multiply 1st equation by 3 and subtract the 2nd equation

6A = 18B = 3(138)

subtract

6A +7B = 194

to get

11B = 414-194 = 220

B = 220/11 = $20 for a blueberry pie

A=(138-6(20))/2 = (138-120)/2 = 18/2 = $9 for an apple pie
