if the base is the same, just add the exponents
6^3 times 6^9 = 6^12 (3+9=12)
2^1 times 2^4 = 2^5 (1+4=5)
10^3 times 10^7 = 10^10 (3+7=10)
5^3 times 5^3 = 5^6 (3+3=6)
12^5 times 12^12 = 12^17 (5+12= 17)
7^6 times 7^6 times 7^6 = 7^18 (6+6+6=18)
it may be easier to see why this is true, if you look at a simple example 2^2 times 2^3 = 2^5
2^2 = 2x2 = 4
2^3 = 2x2x2 = 8
2^2 times 2^3 = 4x8 = 32
2^5 = 2x2x2x2x2 = 32
