"Negative inverse" should be negative reciprocal (or negative multiplicative inverse).

solve for y
2y =3x + 8
y = (3/2)x + 4
the line has slope = 3/2 = the coefficient of the x term when the equation is solved for y
the perpendicular line has slope = negative inverse. take 3/2, change its sign and flip it upside down to get -2/3
the perpendicular lines are y=(-2/3)x + b where b is any real number

The line described by y=(-2/3)x + 4 is indeed perpendicular to the line described by y=(3/2)x + 4. They share the same y-intercept [the point (0,4) where x=0]. So, b can be any real number, INCLUDING 4 !!02/22/22
