when 1/3 of the pears were taken out from box A and 5/9 of the pears were taken out of box B, there was an equal number of pears in both boxes. if 84 pears were taken out, how many pears were there in both boxes at first?

2/3 A = 4/9 B

1/3 A = 2/9 B

1/3 A + 5/9 B= 84

1/3 A - 2/9 B = 0

7/9 B = 84

B = 9/7)(84) = 9(12) = 108 in box B originally

A = (3/2)(4/9)B = 3(2/9)(108)=6(12) = 72 in Box A originally

1/3 of 72 = 24

5/9 of 108 = 5(12) = 60

108-60= 48 left in box B

72-24 = 48 left in box A
