Hello,
I like questions like these because they are helpful for teaching us about real world problems.
I'll give you a simple example that I hope will help you figure out how to do the more complicated one that you have.
I went to the store and bought 2 Buckets of Paint. I was able to paint 100 square feet of wall with them both. Now I want to paint another wall that is 250 square feet. How many buckets will I need for the second wall?
The trick to these problems is figuring out how much 1 bucket covers. Divide the total amount of the first wall painted by the two buckets that you used.
It should be (100 ft2) / (2 Buckets) = (50 ft2) / (1 Bucket) = 50 Square Feet per Bucket
So each bucket that I buy will be enough to cover 50 square feet.
Now I want to paint 250 square feet. I am going to divide the size of the second wall by the amount that 1 bucket can paint.
It should be (250 ft2) / (50 ft2 / Bucket) = 5 Buckets
So I will need 5 buckets to finish my second wall.
From here I am sure you can figure the problem out with the fertilizer.
Remember, first find out how much 1 pound can cover. Then find out how many you are going to need for the whole lawn.
Good Luck,
Michael
