Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
y = (1/2)x - 4= -2x + 1
(5/2)x = 5
x = 5(2/5) = 2
y = -2(2) + 1 = -3 = the y coordinate of the solution
solution point is (2,-3)
Unless you meant 1/2x -4 =-2x +1
1 -8x = -4x^2 +2x
4x^2 -10x + 1 = 0
x = 10/8 + or - (1/8)sqr(100 -16) = 5/4 + or - (1/8)sqr84
y = --2x +1 = -5/2 + or - (1/4)sqr84 + 1
= -3/2 + or - (1/4)sqr84
or you may have even meant
1/(2x-4) = -2x + 1
1 = -4x^2 + 8x + 2x-4
4x^2 -10x +5 = 0
x = 5/4 + or - (1/8)sqr(100-80) = 5/4 + or - (1/4)sqr5
y = -5/2 + or -(1/2)sqr5 + 1
=--3/2 + or - (1/2)sqr5
Odds are you want the first answer, but you really needed parentheses around the 1/2 so it reads (1/2)x
The 2nd answer is technically correct, but you probably intended parentheses
the 3rd answer is possible if you left out a different place for the parentheses
But you probably intended two simple linear equations, not quadratic, so go with the 1st answer .
y = -3
