f(x) = x - 5
is a line: y= x-5 with y intercept -5 and slope = 1. It's upward sloping. It has x intercept = 5
the intercepts are the two points (0, -5) and (5, 0) connect them with a straight line. that's the graph of the function or equation f(x) = x-5
graph the line, then look for the point on the line with an x coordinate of 5. That's the x intercept (5, 0) The y coordinate is the solution y= 0 or f(5) = 0
f(5) = 5-5 = 0
f(5) = 0. y= f(x) = 0 when x = 5
