y=3x -4 is an upward sloping line with slope =3 and y intercept =-4, x intercept = 4/3
x-y = -1 is another line. solve for y to find its slope and y intercept
y = x +1 has slope =1 and y intercept =1, x intercept = -1
plot the x and y intercepts of each line and connect them.
connect the points (0,-4) and (4/3, 0) for the 1st line
connect the points (0,1) and (-1,0) for the 2nd line
the two lines intersect at the point (5/2, 7/2) where x=2.5 and y=3.5
check the solution by plugging in that point into each equation
x-y = -1
2.5 - 3.5 = -1
y= 3x -4
3.5 = 3(2.5) - 4
3.5 = 7.5 -4
3x -4 = x +1
2x = 5
x =5/2
y=x+1
y = 5/2 +1
y = 7/2
