1 7/8 = 8/8 + 7/8 = (8+7)/8 = 15/8
15/8 divided by 3 = (15/8)/3 = (15/8)(1/3 = 15/(8)(3) = 15/24 = 5/8 of the total pizza for each of the 3 people
seemingly.
But wait, you're sharing the pizza with 3 others, so there's 4 of you. Divide by 4 instead of 3.
15/8 divided by 4 = (15/8)(1/4) = 15/32 of the total pizza for each of the 4 of you. about 47% of the total pizza
change "with" to "among" and go with the 1st solution though.
But maybe that's not what the question is really asking. It asks how much pizza. So maybe you really want to know how to cut up one pizza and how to cut upt that other 7/8 of a pizza.
cut the first full pizza in 4 pieces. each gets 1/4 of that pizza
then cut the 7/8 pizza into 4 pieces, with each getting 7/32 of the almost a full pizza. That's slightly more than 1/5 of of a full pizza but you don't have a full pizza, just 7/8 of a pizza, so just cut it in half, then cut each half in half, and you've got 4 equal pizza slices, pass out 3 to the others, and eat one yourself.
Best answer?
probably 15/32,
if it's one of the choices in a multiple choice test, or go for one of the other above, if they're the only one the test choices include.
half the problem is figuring out what the problem is, or what the problem is with the problem.
