a line through (-8, 7) perpendicular to y = 4x
y= 4x has slope = 4, the coefficient of the x term, when the equation is solved for y
the slope of the perpendicular line is the negative inverse of 4 = -1/4 take 4 = 4/1 and flip it upside down and change its sign
slope also equals the difference in y coordinates divided by the difference in x coordinates. Take a generic (x,y) point and compare it to a specific point (-8, 7) difference in y coordinates is y-7, difference in x coordinates is x - -8 = x + 8. now divide first by second difference:
(y - 7)/(x +8) = -1/4
4y - 28 = -x -8
4y = -x -8 + 28 = -x +20
y = (-1/4)x + 5 in slope intercept form
or
x + 4y = 20 in standard form
